SOY MILK RECIPE π«
Share
If you're looking for a healthy, plant-based alternative to dairy, soy milk is a great option! Here's how to make it at home. π‘
Ingredients:
- Soybeans (around 350 g)
- Water
Instructions:
- β Soak the soybeans for 6-12 hours in cool water.
- β Rinse them thoroughly.
- β Blend the soaked soybeans with water (aim for a ratio of 30-40% soybeans to the rest water). I used less water since my blender was small.
- β Strain the mixture through a sieve and/or cheesecloth.
- β Bring the liquid to a boil, and voila! Your soy milk is ready! π
Alternative Method: You can also skip straining and cook the mixture directly. After boiling, strain it.
From about 350 g of soybeans, I got 1 liter of thick soy milk π«.
FUN FACTS ABOUT SOY MILK π€
β Complete Protein: Soy milk contains all 9 essential amino acids, making it a great source of protein.
β Not many plants contain all essential amino acids together, but soy is one of them, alongside quinoa, buckwheat, hemp seed, and algae.
β Protein content in soy milk is similar to cow's milk, but with less fat and cholesterol. In fact, soy milk contains no cholesterol at all, unlike cow's milk.
β Phytoestrogens in soy help prevent breast cancer in women and testicular cancer in men by blocking excess estrogen production and balancing hormone levels.
β Better calcium absorption: Only 33% of calcium from cow's milk is absorbed by the body, but calcium from soy milk is fully absorbed.
β A long history: People have been drinking soy milk for thousands of years. In China and other parts of Asia, soy is a basic part of the diet. It wasnβt until recently, with the rise of plant-based diets, that soy milk became trendy in Western cultures.
Soy-based products like tofu, tempeh, soy milk, and natto are not only delicious but also nutritious and energy-efficient to produce. π±
